At the McMurdo Antarctic base, about 1,000 people reside during the austral summer. A micro-universe at the edge of the world where scientists coexist with plumbers, philosophers with former bankers turned drivers, researchers and travelers. Werner Herzog, one of the foremost documentarians of recent decades, takes the audience to the edge of the world to discover the stories of men living in the inhospitable realm of the Antarctic ice. We find that what often drives even the most idealistic individuals to the extreme borders of the globe is a somewhat overt form of restlessness. It's a meditation on nature and humanity, which, in that white universe of beauty and harmony, appears in all its precariousness.
